Pearl Kirchmeier

I am currently a senior at Roosevelt High School, and have high hopes for this website. For my Senior Inquiry Action Project, I am tackling the issue of Homelessness. My goal with this website is to provide a variety of resources, and information, to help decrease the severity of people experiencing homeless, who don't have immediate access to basic needs.

Living in Portland, I commonly see homeless people, whether it's outside stores, downtown, or on overpasses. When I was younger it would usually be adults that I saw holding signs or sleeping on porches. Starting freshman year I began to notice that it wasn't just adults that were on the streets holding signs, I started seeing young children sitting next to their parents reading or sitting down. I noticed there were even younger kids who looked to be about toddler age, crying for their parents to feed them. It was heartbreaking, and I wanted to help. Since changing homelessness as a whole is a bit harder, I decided to try to help prevent it, and bring education the this topic.

I am also a senior at Roosevelt High School, I could see this website growing, and becoming a really resourceful outlet. For our action project my goal for this website is to spread awareness. Too many people are on the streets, and there needs to be a solution to homelessness.

I grew up in Northeast Portland, many of homeless people live on the streets, in parks, and mostly in downtown Portland. As a child it was always my dream to make a difference in people's lives, and create something that helps out the homeless/less fortunate. Now as an African American woman and minority I know how it feels to not feel apart of society. With this website I plan on helping those who are on the streets or those who don't have enough resources. I want to let them know they're not alone. I hope this action prevents the worldwide issue of homelessness not only in the city of Portland, but one day across the country.
